Nano titanium dioxide for refractory materials
Basic Overview
In order to improve the sintering performance of refractory products and reduce the sintering temperature, nano titanium dioxide is often added to refractory materials. TiO2 has a similar lattice constant to corundum and is also a variable valence oxide. In a reducing atmosphere, Ti4+is reduced to Ti3+, which is dissolved in corundum. In a partial reducing atmosphere, Al2O3 and TiO2 can form Al2O3-TiO2 solid solution. During the sintering process of the product, due to the valence effect, lattice defects are generated inside the corundum crystal, activating the lattice and promoting sintering. At 1600 degrees, the solid capacity (mass fraction) of nano titanium dioxide in corundum can reach 1%. Therefore, adding nano titanium dioxide 0.5-1% can reduce the sintering temperature by 150-200 degrees, and has little effect on the refractory properties of the product.
